Director's Corner

BY DEBBIE KENNEDY '94

The longer I have the privilege of serving as the executive director of the WSU Alumni Association, the surer I become about one thing. It is the Shocker relationships that our association helps build and grow that matter most. They matter to the university we love, and they matter to all of us, whether we are Wichita State alumni, students, faculty, staff or university friends.

Each year, the association hosts or co-hosts a wide-ranging series of events — from Rockin’ the Roundhouse, to the Shocker Scholar Honors Banquet, to the WSU Alumni Awards Banquet, to basketball and baseball watch parties — that provide meaningful opportunities for relationships to be made or maintained. Yet there is one event with a long, rich history on our campus that is missing from this series. In fact, it hasn’t been experienced at Wichita State since 1990.

It is homecoming.

And it is my great pleasure to be among the first to let you know that the alumni association, working alongside members of Shockers Forever and other current WSU student leaders, are planning on reviving this university tradition.

Although plans for specific activities are still being determined, Homecoming 2010 has been slated for Feb. 12-14. We invite you to make plans now to come home to Wichita State for this event. You’re sure to renew old relationships, and to build new ones.

Together for WSU.
