We're Not Back to School Bash III

BY CONNIE KACHEL WHITE

For the third year, the WSU Alumni Association threw a parking-lot party for Shockers not heading back to school for the fall semester — although quite a few 21-and-older Wichita State students, as well as university administrators, were spotted in the crowd of nearly 200.

Wade Robinson, for example, who’s the university’s new vice president of campus life and university relations, was among those enjoying live music, food, drinks, games and absolutely perfect mid-summer weather at the Aug. 21 event held outside the Woodman Alumni Center.

With tunes from Midwest Electric and All Axcess Band, plenty to drink (donated by House of Schwan) and loads of food from Papa John’s, Jimmy John’s and Larry Bud’s Sports Bar & Grill, party-goers mingled, laughed, danced and vied for top honors in hula-hooping and other games.

WSU Alumni Association members who attended nabbed a special gift: a set of two WuShock car coasters — simply for being active members.

“It was just our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our great association members,” says Amanda Zedrick, the alumni association’s director of alumni relations.

Among the Shockers who came out for the bash were new association president Collin Stieben ’02, Frank ’68 and Linda Chappell, Kent and Anita ’89 Cochran, Felicia DeSpain ’00, Bobby Gandu ’02, Delia Garcia ’02, Tyler Heffron ’02, Jarrod Nolan ’08 and Jackie Williams ’67. Planning committee members for the bash were  Stieben, Grant Glasgow ’02,  Gandu, Trish Inslee ’04, Michelle Ortiz ’07, Holly Thompson ’05, Keith Talbert ’06, Lisa Hansen ’07, Chad Hanson ’04 and Jessica Provines ’01.
