At the end of tourney play on May 12 at Wichita’s Willowbend Golf Club, it was George Fahnestock ’69 and the other members of his team, Eric Fahnestock, Brian Langlais and Darin Weidenheimer fs ’89, who had come out on top of the 31-team field — for the umpteenth year straight.

“Legend has it,” relates Steve Cohlmia ’74, who has chaired the tournament planning committee for the past several years, “that the Fahnestocks have been winning the WSU Alumni Association-sponsored tournament since the mid-1960s.”

Cohlmia adds, “Next year, for the 2006 Shocker Open, look forward to some new and exciting innovations.”

“It looked like everyone was having fun on the links,” reports Tim Holder, the alumni association director who coordinates the tournament, “and because of the enthusiasm and hard work of our committee members and volunteers, this year’s tournament was successful in meeting its serious mission of raising money for alumni association projects and programs that support higher education at Wichita State.”

Holder adds that special thanks go to the 2005 Shocker Open sponsors: Western Uniform and Towel Service Inc., Community Bank, Legacy Bank, Bank of America, House of Schwan, Pepsi Bottling Group of Wichita, Fahnestock Heating, A/C & Electric, Scholfield Auto Plaza, Kim Dwerlkotte Interior Design, Classic Real Estate, Southwest National Bank, Pinnacle Construction, Cochran Mortuary, McKinney’s First Street Automotive, Howard’s Optical, Patterson Dental, Edward M.
