The Greek community is known for hosting a variety of philanthropy and community service events.

The Women’s Panhellenic Association, the Interfraternity Council and the Multicultural Greek Council will sponsor several Greeks Give events this academic year.

Already this semester, a Change for Change drive was held for the Humane Society – and men strode, strutted, walked and tottered around campus in high heels for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.

The Interfraternity Council partnered with Student Activities Council for the fourth year to bring Walk a Mile in Her Shoes to WSU. In 2010, the IFC was looking for a program to sponsor during Welcomefest, the first two weeks of classes during the fall semester. They came across Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and knew it could generate publicity for the fraternities and provide an opportunity to stand up for something important. The event is part of a movement to end rape, sexual assault and gender violence.

At the event, participants arrive and exchange flip-flops and tennis shoes for a pair of high heels, ranging from a pair of sensible, black shoes to a strappy number with sequins to a striking red pump with three-inch heels.

The walk concluded with BBQ donated by Mel Hambelton Ford and grilled by the Wichita Wagonmasters. The Cowboy Boot Shop is also a supporter of the event, repairing any damaged high heels for free each year.
