National Recognition
LaWanda Holt-Fields ’91/99, who directs the TRIO McNair Scholars Program at WSU, was honored as the 2012 Greek Advisor of the Year at the Central Regional Luncheon during the 51st National Convention for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Also during the convention, held July 11-17 in Washington, D.C., Wichita State’s Delta Sigma Theta chapter was recognized with the Social Action Award.
Tony ’85 and Cathy ’85/90 Durano were named Outstanding Chapter Advisors at the 2013 Delta Upsilon Leadership Institute, which took place Aug. 1-4 in Phoenix, Ariz. The annual Leadership Institute provides unique brotherhood events, educational programs for undergraduates and alumni, and an update from the leadership of Delta Upsilon. The Outstanding Chapter Advisors award is presented to only one recipient, or “set” of recipients, internationally each year. The Duranos have been advising the Delta Upsilon chapter at WSU for four years.
The Phi Delta Theta chapter was awarded the Founder’s Cup at the Kleburg Emerging Leaders Institute, July 26-30 in Oxford, Ohio. The Founder’s Cup is given to the top chapter in the middle division. The award measures chapter success in the areas of academics, membership development and recruitment. This is the second time in three years the Kansas Delta chapter has received this award.
MGC Student Visit Day
The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)hosted its first Multicultural Greek Visit Day on Oct. 11. Students in grades 6-12 were invited to campus to learn more about going to college and what it’s like to be part of an MGC organization.
Pink Carpet Fashion Show
Also on Oct. 11, the Pink Carpet Fashion Show, hosted by the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was held at the CAC Theater. This night of fashion honored women in the community who have survived breast cancer. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a breast cancer awareness or research center.
