MVC Preseason Player of the Year

Alex HardenWichita State was chosen second in the MVC women’s basketball preseason poll, and Alex Harden became the program’s first-ever preseason Player of the Year in the annual survey of MVC coaches, sports information directors and media members.

Indiana State was voted atop the poll with 26 first-place votes and 378 total points. The Shockers garnered 360 points and 13 first-place votes. Loyola netted one first-place vote.

Harden, a junior, was the 2012-13 MVC Defensive Player of the Year and the MVC Tournament MVP.

Also selected a first-team all-Valley member, she led WSU in points, rebounds, assists, blocked shots and steals.

The Way the Ball Bounces

Fresh off last season’s 30-win campaign and a trip to the NCAA Final Four, the Shockers won their 18th straight regular-season opener – their seventh in a row under head coach Gregg Marshall – by defeating Emporia State, 93-50, on Nov. 9 in Charles Koch Arena.

Season's Downs and Ups

The Wichita State volleyball team, which is 23-6 overall, has three more regular-season games before heading into the MVC Tournament, which is slated from Nov. 28 through Nov. 30 at Wichita.
