Running as a Pro

Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton ’13 is continuing her winning ways. An All-American runner at Wichita State, she has already won four races as a professional.

Next was the Santa Fe to Buffalo Thunder Half-Marathon in New Mexico. By the end of this race, Tuliamuk-Bolton, who finished in 1:09:16, had set a new race record.

In October, she proved she isn’t done breaking records.

Tuliamuk-Bolton, who trains in Santa Fe, won the Prairie Fire Wichita Half-Marathon in 1:14:35, which gave her the record for fastest female half-marathon time in Kansas history.

She later won the Tulsa Run 15K with a time of 49:24, photo above.

They #Watched!

Shocker fans weren’t the only ones Wichita State Athletics got to #WATCHUS. The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators was watching too.

The NACMA selected WSU to receive the 2012-13 Marketing Team of the Year Award. “We are honored to accept this prestigious award,” says John Brewer, assistant AD/marketing and corporate relations at WSU. “It is an important award for the association and collegiate sports marketing in general, and we are humbled that our peers have selected us as its recipient. Wichita State has had a very special year – and this is a great way to cap it off.”

The two other finalists for the award were Iowa State University and Kansas State.

A Mavericks Rookie

Gal Mekel fs ’08 made his NBA debut with the Dallas Mavericks this season. Mekel, who is from Tel Aviv, Israel, played basketball for two seasons at Wichita State before returning to Israel. He then played for Treviso in the Italian League and for Haifa before signing a three-year, minimum-salary guaranteed deal with Dallas, becoming only the second Israeli player in NBA history.
