As a teenager in Kechi, Kan., Jacob Seibel '11 knew he wanted to work in law enforcement, so he started tagging along with local police officers.
While a student at Wichita State, he took a step closer to his future profession by enlisting the help of the cooperative education office to land a job as a loss prevention officer at Towne East Square. "The loss prevention job pretty much solidified what I wanted to do," he says. "Through that job I was able to meet Wichita police officers that I started to ride along with. There was one in particular who ended up being an excellent reference for me when I applied for the job I have now."
After graduating from the Kansas City, Kan., Police Academy in April 2012, Seibel went to work as a patrolman. "There's no way to prepare yourself for what you see out here," he says. "Sometimes it's shocking, sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's repulsive and sometimes it's pretty routine."
Although he deals with a wide range of law enforcement issues, he says his favorite part of work is narcotics investigations.
