Surprise Honor

Don RobsonA surprise awaited artist, educator and Wichita State alumnus Don Robson '72 at Concordia University's commencement ceremony on May 10. Robson, who serves as chair of the art department at the university in Seward, Neb., was presented the 2014 Outstanding Teaching Award.

The honor is given to a full-time faculty member who is nominated by students and selected by a committee of students and faculty members who have previously received the award. The honoree's name is not revealed until the announcement during commencement. "I'm blessed to be here," Robson commented after his name was announced.

A faculty member at Concordia since fall 2009, he has taught a variety of art courses, including drawing, advanced collage and mixed media, advanced painting and methods of art education.

An accomplished and published artist, he has shown his artworks in juried competitions, solo and group exhibitions and has work in galleries, museums and private collections across the country.
