This Oct. 8, I had the pleasure of addressing WSU’s eight Shocktoberfest Outstanding Senior Men and Women finalists, their families and friends. I was impressed with all of the finalists — not only by what they have accomplished in the classroom, but in all the ways they have found to demonstrate leadership and to give back to their university and wider community.
This experience reinforced what I have always believed about the exceptional quality of our student body at WSU, as well as demonstrated the high level of commitment that our students receive from faculty and staff. We can all be Shocker proud of what is occurring on our campus.
I also noted that each of those outstanding young men and women had positive things to say about WSU and their experiences here. They certainly make wonderful ambassadors for Wichita State! I feel it is an important part of my role as executive director to involve our current students more with our alumni association while they are here, so that it will be a natural evolution for them to stay connected after they graduate.
All of us will benefit and grow from the addition of such terrific young people to our alumni association membership roster — and from their interactions with the many dedicated association members we seek to serve.
