This year, the WSU Alumni Association’s annual golf tournament teed off in support of student-recruitment efforts. In fact, the tag line for the Shocker Open was “Carrying the Bag for WSU Student Recruitment.”

Held April 24 at the Willowbend Golf Club in Wichita, the event was a successful venture organized by planning committee chair Steve Cohlmia ’74 and members Steve Carr ’75, Pat Crowley ’76/79, Angela Dudley ’98/05, Bob Dwerlkotte ’75, Dick Elliott ’71, Dan Foley ’59, Bobby Gandu ’02/06, Trish Inslee ’04, Sara Stucky ’02/06 and Steve Thomas ’02/05.

More than 120 Shocker golfers participated in the tournament fundraiser, including Jan Aaron, Rick Albrecht, Tammy Allen ’82/85/95, Todd Bailey ’92/99, Tyler Chapman, Terry Donovan, Dawson Grimsley, Bob Gutschenritter ’70/75, John Hurst, Joe Korst ’56/65, Sam Kouri ’57, Mike Latimer, Bob Loveland, Leon Lungwitz ’70, Ted Mason ’86, Tim McGuigan, Brian Morris, Joe Norton ’73, Bill Oetting ’64, Tom Roulston, Kate Taylor and Quoc Truong.

Although on this day no golfer was lucky enough to drive in a hole-in-one to drive off with a 2008 Chevy Malibu — which was provided as CaddyShock’s hole-in-one prize by Davis Moore Chevrolet — each tournament golfer did walk away with a bag full of prizes, including a sleeve of golf balls and a pair of Bollé sunglasses from Specs.

Golfers enjoyed a full day of sport with check-in at 10:30 a.m., lunch at 11 and a noon start to the scramble format tournament. Drinks and snacks were served, and prizes and door prizes awarded during a post-play reception.

Tournament sponsors were Carrier Weather Service, Community Bank, Davis-Moore Chevrolet, Fox and Hound Pub & Grille, Gutschenritter & Johnson LLC, House of Schwan, Kim Dwerlkotte Interior Design, Miracle Signs, Pepsi, Preferred Health Systems and Specs.

Hole and tee sponsors were Allen, Gibbs & Houlik, Carey Thomas Hoover & Breault – Steve Cohlmia, Classic Real Estate, Cochran Mortuary, Commerce Bank, Conco Construction, Don and Lynn Stephan, Fahnestock Heating AC & Electric, Fox and Hound, Graphic Systems, InSite Real Estate Group, Intrust Bank, Joseph & Hollander PA, Key Management, Lamplighter Mobile Home Park, Mason and Mason Dentistry, Patterson Dental, Security Self Storage, Smith Barney, Southwest National Bank, Stillwater National Bank, Syndeo Outsourcing, Wachovia Securities – Ken Brasted and Tom Roulston.
