This February during planning for our 53rd annual WSU Alumni Awards banquet, I was again struck with the calibre and the diversity of the contributions made to our university and society by our honorees — not only this year’s recipients, but all those who have been so recognized through the years.
This year, it has been truly inspiring to learn about and celebrate the success stories of our 2008 honorees: Marilyn Pauly ’72, Charles and Liz Koch, Dean Headley ’82, Kaye Monk-Morgan ’93/96, Ruth Matz and the Hon. Wesley Brown.
Each of them has had a unique and lasting effect on campus and in our community. Together, they represent the culmination of the highest purposes of our great urban-serving university — Wichita State University in all of its various educational, research, service, social and athletic pursuits.
I offer heartfelt congratulations to the honorees one more time, and also would like to thank the members of the selection committee for their work and commitment to this program. Chaired by Dave Dahl ’71, the committee did an excellent job of determining our newest class of honorees. Thank you, Dave, Pamela Clancy-Ammar ’80, Susan Eastman ’78/02, Ross Hollander ’73, Ron Holt ’77, Ron Kopita, Molly McMillan ’94, Chris Shank ’69, Lynn Stephan ’64/92, Collin Stieben ’00 and Dan Unruh ’86.
