WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI MAGAZINE
Spring 2009

President's Corner

BY DAN UNRUH '86

Since our last The Shocker, your alumni association has been busy with a multitude of activities in support of our mission and of WSU. These activities have resulted in several tangible outcomes.

Last fall, the association recognized a need to adjust our methods of communications to better reflect how people receive information. We subjected the association to a communications audit that resulted in recommendations for improving our message. We are in the early stages of implementing a comprehensive program that will utilize all forms of media in a cost effective and efficient manner. Our alumni magazine will remain a vital component of our strategy, but we will expand our on-line and electronic communication efforts.

Another major initiative has been our efforts to enhance student life on the campus by engaging the Greek community. A task force of dedicated alums led by Grant Glasgow ’02 has been working with student leaders in wsu’s fraternities and sororities. We will be supporting the contributions these students make to wsu traditions, while aiding in their growth from first-year students to college graduates and beyond.

It has been a rewarding experience to serve as president of this organization!  The staff and volunteers who dedicate their time and energy in support of our mission are truly some of the most talented people know. I wish to thank the members of our board for their service this past year. Special thanks go to members of the Executive Committee (Steve Cohlmia, Bob Gutschenritter, Ross Hollander, Kaye Monk-Morgan, Lynn Stephan, Collin Stieben and Kathy Winslow) for their guidance and leadership.

Please continue your support of the association through your membership and your involvement in the advancement of our mission.
