Are you a Shocker hoops enthusiast living in or near Las Vegas? If so, the association is looking for you! We’re wanting to find alumni interested in helping Jody Lupo ’03 organize fan events around WSU men’s basketball appearances in the Las Vegas Holiday Classic, Dec. 17-23.
Norman
Stormin’ Norman
The first 200 Shockers who came out to support the WSU baseball team in its first-round game in the NCAA regional tournament played at the University of Oklahoma nabbed “Stormin’ Norman” WuShock T-shirts and watched as the Shockers defeated Houston 2-1. Shocker fans attending included Les Howard, Gary and Linda Tillman, Marlin Breer ’68, Joan Russell ’76, Keith and Donna Rhodes, Tony Weatherbee and Sheri Zogelmann.
Wichita
Baseball & Barbecue
Eck Stadium’s Coleman Hill was the gathering site for nearly 200 Shocker baseball fans who came out for barbecue and fun for the whole family before WSU’s April 22 game against Missouri Valley Conference rival Bradley. Among the attendees were Trish ’96 and Ken ’91 Brasted, Darel Davis ’94, Chad Green ’93, Ed Lomax ’55, Tim Nyberg ’81, Dorothy ’47 and Bob Ream and Erin ’01 and Collin ’00 Stieben. The event was sponsored by Pepsi Bottling Group and the House of Schwan.
Breakfast for Seniors
More than two dozen WSU alumni, including Steve Shaad ’77, Pamela Clancy Ammar ’80 and Brad Beets ’87, welcomed 300 seniors to the 7th Annual Senior Breakfast, sponsored by Capitol Federal Savings and held April 4 in honor of new grads. Cameron Ledford and Ashley Gluszek, two of this year’s Senior Honor Men and Women, were featured speakers.
Martin Breakfast
Arneatha Martin ’75/80, psychiatric nurse, teacher and healthcare activist, spoke to a crowd of more than 100 alumni, faculty, staff and friends on April 28 at the Marcus Welcome Center. Wichita attendees included Darlene ’72 and Bob Anderson, Carolyn Harrison ’80, Susan Kruger ’75/78/82, Jan Riordan ’79, Kathy Sexton ’88/89/92, and Dwayne ’51 and Dottie Shannon. Out-of-state attendees were Joy ’00 and Brian ’96 Heinrichs from Westfield, N.J., John Morse ’72 from Sanibel, Fla., and Mike Young ’67 of Houston, Texas.
Shocker Honors Scholar Banquet
Mon., Sept. 25 — The 7th Annual Shocker Honors Scholar Banquet. Hosted by the association and undergraduate admissions, the event will celebrate the academic successes of the area’s top high school juniors. Alumni volunteers are needed to host students during dinner at the Wichita Marriott.
