WSUAA's Shockers Forever Host Nearly Naked Run

Nearly Naked Run
After crossing the finish line of the April 23 Nearly Naked Run,
a philanthropic campus run, participants refueled at the NNR's
Pancake Feed inside the Rhatigan Student Center.

No one – not organizers, nor sponsors or participants – was surprised by the cold weather during Homecoming 2015.

After all, festivities were scheduled smack dab in the middle of winter, Feb. 23-28.

But no one anticipated just how cold it did get on the night of the Nearly Naked Run, an annual philanthropic event hosted by the WSUAA's student alumni group, Shockers Forever.

So how cold was it? Cold enough to have organizers make the decision to postpone the event until April 23, when WSU students shed (most of) their clothes – as contributions to the Salvation Army's efforts to help the homeless – and took off nearly naked on a campus run.

Lara Brockway and Jeff Sherman were the fleetest Shocker runners in the women's and men's categories, respectively.

After crossing the finish line, Nearly Naked Run participants refueled at the NNR's Pancake Feed inside the Rhatigan Student Center.

AT THE CENTER

Shocker fun under the big tent

The WSU Alumni Association's BAT Party was on May 5, before the Shockers took Tyler Field for a game against the Wildcats of Kansas State.

Bracket Chatter

Filling out NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament brackets netted some serious fun for members and guests of Women United for the Shockers, who gathered March 16 at Deano's Grill & Tapworks in Wichita for food, drink – and some collegial rivalry.

Recipients of two alumni association-administered scholarship programs – the WSU License Plate Scholarship and the Legacy Endowed Scholarship – were the center of attention during a congratulatory reception the evening of April 20 at the Woodman Alumni Center.

From the Chair

As my term as Chair ends, this memory reminds me that there is much more to complete with the changes in the Association. I will continue working to advance the organization as directed by Mindy McPheeters. Mindy is a great choice for the next Chair, and has shown strong leadership and commitment.
