Recipients of two alumni association-administered scholarship programs – the WSU License Plate Scholarship and the Legacy Endowed Scholarship – were the center of attention during a congratulatory reception the evening of April 20 at the Woodman Alumni Center.
Courtney M. Marshall, alumni association president and CEO, addressed the scholarship recipients and other event guests before inviting the honorees to introduce themselves and share plans for their academic studies at Wichita State next fall.
Thanks to the more than 2,100 proud Shockers who sport WuShock on their official Kansas tags and “drive their pride” as participants in the WSU License Plate Scholarship program, nine scholarships have been awarded for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The scholarship recipients are Samuel Glomstad-Foster, who will be studying physical education PreK-12; Brielle Hennes, who is planning on going into nursing; Angela Hobbs, accounting; Brianna Hovey, elementary education; Minn-Chau Johnson, biomedical engineering; Emilee Kerr, dental hygiene; Jerad Rogers, biomedical engineering and physics; Kaycee Weiser, athletic training; and Qi Heng Weng, who will be focusing his academic attention on mechanical engineering.
The alumni association also administers the Legacy Endowed Scholarship, which is for children or grandchildren of dues-paying members of the WSUAA who have completed at least 30 credit hours at Wichita State. Legacy scholars for fall 2015 are Lindsay Achey, who plans to major in criminal justice; Kayla Barton, nursing; Mati Bickhard, dental hygiene; Daniel Bohnenkamper, aerospace engineering; and Lauren Roman, who will study elementary education, as well as dance.
