WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI MAGAZINE
Spring 2015

From the Alumni Association President

BY COURTNEY M. MARSHALL, PRESIDENT AND CEO

Courtney M. MarshallThe first few months of any new job is exciting, stressful, challenging …

I could go on and on, but you get the point.Since starting in January, I've experienced all of these emotions!

But most importantly, it has been fulfilling and enjoyable working with a dedicated board and staff and meeting diehard Shocker alumni and fans! I have been fortunate to work at a few other institutions over the last 15 years, but I'm hopeful I've found a home at Wichita State for many years to come.

Since my tenure started as the administrative head of the Wichita State University Alumni Association, we've already seen so many accomplishments on campus – the announcement of new Innovation Campus partners such as Airbus, moving several campus entities to have a WSU presence in Old Town, a $5 million gift to support the newly christened Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College and University

Libraries, a $10 million grant to WSU GEAR UP to serve USD 259 …this list goes on and on. Not to even mention the defeat of that other Kansas basketball team just up the road!

As we prepare to become the BEST ALUMNI ASSOCIATION in the nation, we look forward to restarting alumni chapters and societies, and to engaging alumni right here in Wichita, across the country and around the world.

I hope as the years go by I continue to get excited, stressed and challenged every day as we grow our alumni affairs operations and work together in support of the university we love.

I'm already looking forward to looking back and reflecting on our accomplishments to come – with Shocker pride!

AT THE CENTER

Shocker fun under the big tent

The WSU Alumni Association's BAT Party was on May 5, before the Shockers took Tyler Field for a game against the Wildcats of Kansas State.

Bracket Chatter

Filling out NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament brackets netted some serious fun for members and guests of Women United for the Shockers, who gathered March 16 at Deano's Grill & Tapworks in Wichita for food, drink – and some collegial rivalry.

WSUAA's Shockers Forever Host Nearly Naked Run

No one – not organizers, nor sponsors or participants – was surprised by the cold weather during Homecoming 2015.

Shocker Legacy and "Drive Your Pride" Scholars

Recipients of two alumni association-administered scholarship programs – the WSU License Plate Scholarship and the Legacy Endowed Scholarship – were the center of attention during a congratulatory reception the evening of April 20 at the Woodman Alumni Center.

From the Chair

As my term as Chair ends, this memory reminds me that there is much more to complete with the changes in the Association. I will continue working to advance the organization as directed by Mindy McPheeters. Mindy is a great choice for the next Chair, and has shown strong leadership and commitment.
