Rockin’ the Roundhouse is over; half the school year is nearly gone; and now it’s time for my first message as Chair of the WSUAA. This is a daunting task primarily because there is so much information to share.
As Chair, I have the opportunity to attend meetings of other on-campus organizations and departments. It is exciting to hear about their activities — and to share information about ours.
First, let me say I am honored to be part of this Association with its focus of promoting WSU during this era of innovation. I truly enjoy being a WSUAA member and meeting so many alumni. I am grateful for the hard work taken on by our past Chair, Denis Dieker, and the dedication of our staff led by Courtney Marshall.
One of the key items to be completed this year is updating our strategic plan. We are working with the WSU Center for Community Support and Research to create a plan that aligns with our partners across the University. Several of us have met with CCSR on a regular basis; focus groups have been identified; and, in December, the full Board will dedicate time to form the underlying principles for this plan. I look forward to sharing this with you when finalized.
It was suggested I share a little about myself in this initial article. As I look back on my time at WSU, I note that my experience differs from the traditional student. After high school, I worked full time and attended night classes full time. I am appreciative of the class options, being able to complete my degree on a limited schedule, and of the education I received from professors willing to share their evenings with me and my classmates. I obtained a BBA in accounting from the Barton School of Business and went on to KU Law School. (Yes, basketball season is a great time of year! And, yes, I wore black and yellow last March!) GO, SHOCKS!
