As I come to the end of my first year as president and CEO of the Wichita State University Alumni Association, it is with excitement for the future that I share my greetings. Since January, I have met hundreds of alumni, students, faculty, staff and community members who truly love this institution.
Our Board of Directors and staff are dedicated to serving WSU and being part of our Innovation University.
This year I enjoyed getting to know Shockers at many different events, and I was especially touched by the 50-year reunion class members of 1965. They returned to campus in early October, and many traveled a significant distance to return to their alma mater. What struck me was that many had not been back for 50 years! The changes in the past few months alone are amazing, so the evolution of campus since 1965 must have been a lot to take in.
This brings me to an invitation I want to share with you all: Whether you live across town or across the country, please consider coming back and experiencing the excitement and energy on campus. Be it touring the renovated Rhatigan Student Center or having Sunday brunch in Shocker Hall, you’ll be amazed.
As we begin 2016, the Association is working hard to develop a plan for alumni chapter networks. As we work to fill two positions that will help lead these efforts, we have partnered with the WSU Foundation to identify areas of alumni concentration and help host events there. Upcoming events include Kansas City on Jan. 7 at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and watch parties in California on Jan. 23 and 27. More events are in the works, but if you are interested in helping with efforts in your area, please let us know!
