Shockers attending the Wed., April 5 Baseball Alumni Tailgate (BAT) Party had to hold down their paper plates and slices of Papa Johns pizza as the wind gusted and an early spring chill was kept at bay by Shocker yellow-and-black sweatshirts, jackets and windbreakers.

As the tailgaters enjoyed the pizza, beer and ice cream provided by Papa Johns, House of Schwan and Hiland Dairy, respectively, Courtney M. Marshall, president and CEO of the WSU Alumni Association, welcomed the crowd of Shocker baseball faithful.

She also introduced three special speakers: Todd Butler, head coach, now in his fourth season at Wichita State, Mike Kennedy ’71, who calls the play-by-play action for the Shockers on KEYN-FM, and Brent Kemnitz, longtime Shocker baseball pitching coach, who is now assistant AD for outreach and staff development.

Despite support from Shocker fans, WSU lost to OSU, 3-6. The game had been originally slated for April 4, but postponed on account of rain.
