It is an exciting time to be a Shocker, and I am extremely proud to be a member of the WSU Alumni Association. Membership is the foundation that makes this association such a dynamic and vital organization.
To grow that foundation, our Shocker Superhero membership campaign is in full swing. I want to personally thank Steve Shaad ’77, Delia Garcia ’02 and Jim Rhatigan, our esteemed WSU emeritus dean of students, for their participation as our second trio of Shocker Superheroes.
I know we have many more Shocker Superheroes out there — so if you know of someone who should join the association, please take the opportunity to invite them to one of our events and help them reconnect with a great community of Shockers.
It was a very busy fall. Shocker men’s basketball watch parties in Chicago, Houston, Kansas City, Scottsdale and Topeka provided great opportunities for alumni in those areas to gather and reconnect.
Also in the fall, the association’s young alumni group (Young Alumni Connection) was renamed Generation Wu, GenWu for short, and held its first event in October. Thanks to Collin Stieben ’00 and other GenWu leaders, the group has slated an event around the April 18 WSU vs. KU baseball game at Eck Stadium. (Game time is 7 p.m.)
Additionally, one of our goals this year is to lay the groundwork for a long-term funding source that will ensure that the association has the committed financial resources to continue to grow and serve WSU and its alumni. Over the next few months, I will be working closely with the alumni association team and fellow alumni to kick off our new campaign. Please be on the look-out for information about how you can get involved.
It really is an exciting time to be a Shocker. As we head into spring, there are many opportunities to connect with fellow alums and friends.
Show your Shocker drive and pride at one of these upcoming spring events: CaddyShock VII, April 26; Jim Mann ’56 Distinguished Alumni Speaker Breakfast, April 27; and Baseball & Barbeque at Eck Stadium, April 28. Hope to see you there.
Go, Shocks!
