BY MILDRED EDWARDS '96/99/08, BOARD CHAIR

Mildred EdwardsGreetings from your Centennial Alumni Association President!

I’m sure you’re thinking how in the world can I give myself such a prestigious title, especially since much of the visioning, preparation, planning, programming and outstanding outreach to our Association friends was conducted long before I was elected to this office. Easy, timing – and in this instance,  timing is absolutely everything!

In the century that our Association has provided support to our beloved University, it has initiated and maintained such core work as alumni record-keeping and communications. It has established programs and events that have become Shocker traditions, the Alumni Awards program and Homecoming being two examples of many. For more on the proud history of our Association, please don’t miss this issue's “100 Years of Alumni History.”

One of the greatest joys of my Association service has been the opportunity to meet and know the many extraordinary people who, like me, attribute much of their success to their attendance and successful matriculation at WSU. To my Shocker friends and family, yes, I realize I just happen to serve during the 100th year of service to our esteemed organization. I do so with great humility and tremendous pride. I am honored to serve your Alumni Association and hope to ensure that we maintain the excellence of our past, while implementing a strategic plan complementary to WSU’s longterm planning efforts.

Join in as we share our Shocker Pride, for one alumni smile can begin a friendship not previously gained. One alumni touch can show you care about another. One alumni voice can speak words of wisdom that build a legacy. One hopeful alum can raise another’s low spirits. It only takes one Shocker to change our nation or the world – and attending just one alumni event can spark a most rewarding journey.

You are the ONE! As stated earlier, it’s all about timing, and the time is now!
