Director's Corner

BY DEBORAH KENNEDY '94 - ASSOCIATION DIRECTOR

The major Kennedy family event this summer was the marriage of our son, Sean, to Mandy Richardson on July 29. Both are WSU students, active in Greek organizations. I mention this because Sean and Mandy were surrounded by their many college friends during the wedding, and one of the most enjoyable parts of the celebration was watching these young people interact and enjoy one another.

It occurred to me as I watched, with joy in my heart and tears in my eyes, that the relationships we make at WSU are often the ones that stay with us most closely throughout our lives. That is why our work here at the alumni association is so important – and so rewarding. It is our principal purpose and responsibility to be the conduit through which former students are able to maintain the relationships they formed at WSU.

We do this by reaching out to share Shocker news and information, and through the many events we sponsor each year. These events and our communications not only help maintain individual connections, but also keep people involved in their university, thus creating an ongoing base of support for WSU.

If you are an association member – thank you! If you are not, we hope you will contact us about the many ways we can help you stay connected to the people and the university that made your college years so special.

A great university deserves a great alumni association. I am proud of the work we do here – and I am proud of both Sean and Mandy, and wish them a lifetime of joy.
