1954 graduates from the University of Wichita were toasted and fêted May 14-15 at their 50-year class reunion. Reunion highlights included a class reception and brunch at the Woodman Alumni Center, guided tours of the Ulrich Museum of Art and the Holmes Anthropology Museum, brand-new Charles Koch Arena and WSU’s campus.
At the 50-Year Club luncheon in the Rhatigan Student Center Ballroom, participating members were inducted into the university’s 50-Year Club and presented commemorative medallions by WSU President Don Beggs and WSU Alumni Association Executive Director Brad Beets ’87. Class members Sally (Lambert) Dewey, David Dewey and Earl Reeves ’54/59 spoke on behalf of the class, making special mention of many who taught at WU in 1954. WSU Alumni Association President Terri Moses ’80/90 acknowledged several WU graduates, including Lamarr Calbeck for having the most children (nine!) and Juanita (Clinard) Armstrong for having travelled the farthest to attend the reunion — from San Clemente, Calif.
Bill Thomson ’63/65, on piano, and Tom Fowler ’68/79, on saxophone, both WSU School of Music professors, provided music. The close of the luncheon saw (and heard!) WSU First Lady Shirley Beggs leading all attendees in singing the alma mater.
Out of town guests were Dorris (Stapleton) ’54/56 and Jim Brant of Isabel, Kan., Dwayne Clum of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Sid Gates of Denver, Colo., Shirley (Quick) Heit of Topeka, Kan., Charlotte (Noe) Holmes Browning of Tucson, Ariz., Bob Lakin of St. George, Utah, Audrey (Blume) Le Pell of Hayward, Calif., John Meilert of Vienna, Va., Reeves of Columbia, Mo., Charles Stansifer ’53/54 of Lawrence, Kan. and Al Taylor of Sierra Vista, Ariz.
