As our campus continues to evolve with construction and completion of Innovation Campus buildings, one thing has been a constant here for more than 60 years: the Wichita State University Alumni Awards.
Since 1955, the WSU Alumni Association has honored individuals by recognizing personal and professional achievement, as well as service to the university and society at the annual Alumni Awards Banquet. On April 17, 2018, we will once again gather to celebrate and induct an amazing class of individuals. From educators to philanthropists, we have a slate of Shockers that will truly impress, and I hope you will make plans to join us as we celebrate and learn more about these outstanding honorees that evening. Since the WSUAA serves as the “keeper of traditions,” we are honored to carry on this tradition – and I have to admit this is absolutely my favorite event each year. The slate of inductees is presented on Page 7. I congratulate each of these amazing individuals who call themselves Shockers: M. Lee Pelton, Mike James, Cindy Claycomb, Kaye Monk-Morgan, Lisa Teachman, Bill and Dorothy Cohen, and Bob Gutschenritter.
As you read through the pages of this issue of The Shocker, I hope you’ll be as inspired and entertained as I am by the diverse range of stories about Shockers doing amazing things. Read on to find out how Shockers are impacting and changing our world for the better through scientific research, art and education – how they’re enriching our lives by serving in politics, performing on Broadway and working in sport administration and more. You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are Shockers featured here whom we’ll be honoring with future Alumni Awards.
